FAQs

What do you treat?

We treat people of all ages and gender identities with pelvic floor or orthopedic dysfunction. Pelvic floor physical therapy addresses any concerns with bowels, bladder, sexual function, or pelvic pain. See “Our Services” page for more information.

Do I need a doctor referral?

You may be seen in the state of Georgia for physical therapy for 21 days without a doctor referral. Laura can assist you with the appropriate steps to obtaining a referral.

What makes you different than other Pelvic PTs?

Laura has been treating pelvic floor dysfunction for over 3 years with extensive clinical experience, mentorship and continuing education. She has often been the physical therapist that people come to when other PT “doesn’t work”. Unlike many other pelvic floor physical therapists, Laura’s treatment is rooted in using movement as medicine. She provides manual therapy where appropriate but believes that targeted exercise is often the best way to address the root cause and keep patients feeling better longer.

While she is a sole provider at this time, she is a member of professional clubs and networks to stay up to date with latest research and technology. Laura also regularly meets with other pelvic health professionals to discuss cases and patients.

We are also not only able to offer office visits but can also treat you from the comfort of your own home. This allows you to fit pelvic physical therapy into your already busy schedule.

How soon after giving birth can I see a Pelvic Floor PT?

If you have no concerns, you can wait until after your postpartum visit with your doctor, usually around 4-6 weeks postpartum. We recommend asking your doctor for a referral at this appointment. However, if you are having concerns prior to that appointment, you can be seen as soon as possible.

What should I expect from my first visit?

Once you request and appointment and it is confirmed, Laura will reach out to you with more information about your first appointment details. The first appointment consists of a detailed history of your condition including discussion of your current limitations and goals. Then a thorough evaluation of your body is completed including posture, strength, mobility, palpation of muscles, movement analysis, and a pelvic floor examination if indicated. Laura will then help make a treatment plan and make possible referrals to other professionals to help along the way. Remember that internal pelvic floor examinations are not required. Informed consent is obtained throughout the evaluation.

What do I need to prepare for a mobile visit?

All you need is a private, comfortable space big enough for a massage table. Laura will bring a table, supplies, and everything needed to carry out an effective and convenient physical therapy appointment.

Do I have to have an internal examination?

While internal pelvic floor examinations can often help us obtain valuable information for treatment of your condition, it is never required.

Do you treat men?

We treat people of all gender identities, including males. At this time, people who identify as males will be required to schedule an “In Office” appointment.

What if I am on my Period?

Your period doesn’t make us uncomfortable and is not a deal breaker. If you would prefer not have internal work while on your period, that is completely okay. There are many things to work on outside of internal treatment.
